Who We Are

Cartoon Club, International Festival of Animation Cinema and Comics,
was born in 1984 (it is 25 years old!) and is now the main annual animation cinema event, of Emilia-Romagna’s coast. The Festival takes place throughout the major locations of the city of Rimini, from the historical centre to the seaside, and develops its activities for the whole month of July – the high point being in the third week of the month with more than 300 films, 4 awards, 4 to 6 exhibitions, workshops in schools, and a monthly magazine about comics and animation cinema.
The Festival promotes the concept of a strong joint-venture with the world of comics, in order to study and promote the relationship between two kinds of art that can help and improve each other. With special attention dedicated to families and children, Cartoon Club offers its patrons feature-length animated movies along with short films, advertising spots and live performances. With more than 50,000 visitors and many special guests from Italy and other countries, the Festival regularly draws an audience of professionals, animation lovers, and tourists.
Cartoon Club is a proud member of important international associations such as CIFEJ (Centre International de Film pour l'enfance et La Jeunesse) and ECFA (European Children’s Film Association), and is partner of several festivals all over the world.

Animated Films Screenings: Movies from all over the world
Feature-length films and short movies are both offered to the public, in popular locations such as Fellini Square (seaside) and the ancient Agostiniani Cloister (Historical Centre). Except for the long feature films, all the screenings are free entrance.

Events: Shows, concerts, music, exhibitions
Cartoon Club offers several other ways to introduce its public to the world of animation cinema: comic art exhibitions, workshops on the seaside, live performances about animation & comics, in joint venture with other art forms such as music and theatre.

Signor Rossi Award: Dedicated to the world of young cartoonists
The Contest is opened to films made at high schools, universities, or cinema specialization schools. An international jury of professionals awards the author of the best film with a “Signor Rossi” statuette, plus a money prize.

Riminicomix: The comics and cinema market
Here, animation cinema lovers can find anything from the major houses to the smaller self-productions: the latest DVDs, special and rare film editions, and CD-ROMs. After watching the films during the Festival, people can improve their home video collection.

Publishing Activity: Magazines, catalogues, books, essays
Cartoon Club works all the year long, to publish products about animation cinema and comics, and the relationship between these two media. Some of the best specialized journalists cooperate with the Festival staff, writing articles and reports. Click here for details (Italian only).
