The Rose Island
Cartoon Club publishes a booklet that collects pages from Martin Mystère dedicated to the the floating utopia born on the waters of Rimini
Floating utopia, controversial quarrel of International Law or less poetic, is it the original economic attempt of a professional genius? Maybe the true reason that has actually allowed the “blooming” of the Rose Island, the micro-nation born on the waters of Rimini, will remain a fascinating mystery.
It is however, one of the most bizarre stories that the Riviera (and the whole nation) has ever lived, and coming back among the current events after forty years from his forced disappearance.
The credits go to Cinematica, an association of movie production which has brought back the incredible story of the micro-nation on the water, because they made a passionate one-hour documentary movie, Insulo de la Rozoj: Freedom frightens.
The dream of the “nation that made Italy tremble” did jump in the water on 1st of May 1968, a micro-nation of 400 floating meters on a steel platform manufactured off the coast of North Rimini, that floated until February 1969. When the Roses withered in the sea, the Italian state made it blow up. In forty years, from its destruction, the Isle of the Roses continues to tickle the fantasy. A museum in Vancouver, Canada, in 2008, celebrated the myth with an installation, and they put it in parallel with the Isle of Utopia created by Tommaso Moro. A Florence-based company is “docking” at the theatre with the Isle. The hip-hop group Efficienza Sonica won the MEI of Faenza, with a song inspired to the micro-nation. In the comics series Martin Mystère, an episode was dedicate to the Rose Island. Now, NdA Press has published the book L’Isola delle Rose: la libertà fa paura (“Rose Island: freedom frightens”) and the homonymous documentary, available in DVD with many additional contents, among which a long interview to Alfredo Castelli, the creator of the Detective of Impossible.
In this occasion, Cartoon Club publishes the comic-book Martin Mystère tells the Rose Island. It contains the panels of the original story with brand new images and articles by Castelli, and a brand new cover by Giancarlo Alessandrini. A product for fans and collectors.
