ALFREDO CASTELLI WINS THE "FRANCO FOSSATI" AWARD

The book Fumettisti d’invenzione. L’autore di fumetti nella fiction: al cinema, in televisione, nella letteratura disegnata, alla radio e in altri media, by Alfredo Castelli, published by Coniglio Editore, has won the 2010 edition of the "Franco Fossati" Award! The prize-giving ceremony will take place on Saturday, July 24th, at about 10 pm, in the wonderful setting of Fellini Square. More infos on the official press release.

"GAMBA TRISTA" WINS THE "CARTOON BABY" AWARD!

The short film "Gamba trista", made by the director Francesco Filippi, has won the "Cartoon Baby" Award", for short animated films suitable to a target of children. The winner has been decided by a jury made of six very severe children, and the prize-giving ceremony is taking place tonight, at ChiostroEstate, with the screenings of the films that have participated to the award, and the theatre show The Lunar Adventures of a Moody Little Girl, by the Compagnia del Serraglio, inspired by the character "Viperetta", created by Antonio Rubino. PEANUTS AT "ARTECARTOON"

Happy birthday, Charlie Brown! Sixty years of life, and yet the Peanuts by Charles Schulz still make us smile with their adventures, their gags, their phylosophical chats. The "ArteCartoon" section, dedicated to screenings of animated films at the Civic Museums, makes its debut today with this tender characters. This time , "Cartoons sotto le stelle" talks serious: theatre and clownerie by the Compagnia dei Ciarlatani, who works in very hard and difficult places of the world, and short films about strong and important themes. SAMURAI JACK AND DEXTER'S LABORATORY AT "CARTOONS UNDER THE STARS "

"Cartoons sotto le stelle" goes on tonight with two characters created by the genius director Genndy Tartakovsky, creator of many animated series aired on Cartoon Network (that we thank for giving us permission to offer these screenings). THE "CARTOONS UNDER THE STARS" BEGIN WITH SCOOBY-DOO

Today, Cartoon Club invites you to the first long weekend of the "Cartoons Under the Stars", at 21.00 (free entry!). Our special guest for this first night in Fellini Square is the famous Scooby-Doo with the long feature film Scooby Doo! Pirates Ahoy!, that we can screen thanks to the kindness and the collaboration of the satellite channel Boomerang. Official poster and description of the movie are available on our blog.

CARTOON CLUB BEGINS!!!

Cartoon Club begins with a special night at the Cloister in San Giuliano, with screenings of short animation films from the past editions of the festival, before moving to Fellini Square for the first long weekend of the "Cartoons Under the Stars". Have fun!

CARTOON CLUB AT "CARTOOMICS"

From March 26th to 28th, Cartoon Club and its magazine "Fumo di China" have participated to the Cartoomics convention in Milan. On Saturday 27th, a round table about essays on comics took place and this was an occasion to promote our "Franco Fossati" Award, dedicated to Italian books about comics.

EXHIBITION "SHOAH IN COMICS"

From January 9th to 30th, at the Galleria dell’Immagine (Biblioteca Gambalunga, via Gambalunga 27, Rimini),the exhibition Tears, Wolves and Tragical Mice. How comics told about the Shoah took place. This exhibition, organized by Cartoon Club, is a sequence of images and panels from the most famous comic-books that told stories about the tragical experience of the Shoah. Many people visited the exhibition, and appreciated this particular way to remember such a sad page of European history. Here you can view some photographs of the exhibition.

CARTOON CLUB IN GREECE

From December 5th to 12th, in the Greek city of Pyrgos, the festival Camera Zizanio took place (during the Olympia Film Festival). Since it is an event dedicated to audiovisual creations by young people, Cartoon Club sent to Pyrgos a selection of short films that had been screened during our "Animated Workshop" sections in the last three years. Camera Zizanio has chosen and screend the following ones:
- From East with Taste (Cineteca di Bologna, 2008);
- The School and Black White (Laboratorio Millelire, Torino, 2008);
- Inside and Outside the Bags (Lanterna Magica, Bologna, 2009);
- Round Dance of Games (Laboratorio Equamente, 2009);
- Broth Smell (Centro di terapia occupazionale, Riccione, 2009).

INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION DAY

This morning, Cartoon Club has participated to the International Animation Day (see our Online Press Room for details) promoted by Asifa International. At the Cineteca Comunale in Rimini, many short animation films have been screened for the children of the primary schools, this way giving an "autumn sequel" to the activities of our summer festival.

A TRIBUTE TO HAYAO MIYAZAKI

As our "introduction" to the International Animation Day (see our Online Press Room for details), today Cartoon Club, together with the Supercinema Theatre in Santarcangelo (RN) and the Tiberio Theatre in Rimini, proposes the screenings of Ponyo On The Cliff By The Sea (Santarcangelo, Supercinema, 14.45 and 17.30, entry fee € 5,00 adults and € 4,00 children) and My Neighbour Totoro (Rimini, Cinema Tiberio, at 14.30 and 17, entry fee € 5,00 adults e € 4,00 children). Two wonderful films by the Japanese master Hayao Miyazaki, which have been briefly explained and introduced by our cinema critic Paolo Pagliarani on the YouTube channel of Cartoon Club (Itaoian only!).di Cartoon Club.

CARTOON CLUB GOES TO LUCCA!

Cartoon Club, being a publishing house and not just a festival, is going to participate to the most important Italian event in the comics fiels, which is Lucca Comics & Games. We will present our most recent products, such as the last issues of Fumo di China, the most famous Italian magazine about critics and information on comics, and also the comic-books by Marcello Toninelli, dedicated to his character Dante (a parody of Dante Alighieri), which is now 40 years old (the first time it was publishe don a magazine, was in 1969).
The visitors of the fair will also be able to see, through a monitor fixed on our stand, a short video that tells about Cartoon Club and is many activieis: from the cinema reviews to the organization of contests, from the exhibitions about comics and animation, to our comic-books.
Our stand is in the Napoleone Pavillion, and it is called "stand E95". Please come and say hello!

CARTOON CLUB IN FRANCE

During this weekend (October 16th-18th) the Festival du Courtmetrage Sur Les Pas De Mon Oncle is taking place in Saint Maur Des Fosses (France). This festival has cooperated with Cartoon Club for two years now, through exchanges of carte blanche and contacts between staff members. For this 7th edition, our staff member Roberto Sardo has gone to Saint Maur, not only to represent Cartoon Club but also because he is the artistic director of Round, the Independent Cinema Festival which takes place every year in Rimini in the month of May. The short film "Beautiful", by the Riminese director Davide Montecchi, was included in the program of Round in 2008 and is now being presented at the Sur Les Pas De Mon Oncle festival, in a special section dedicated to international festivals of independent cinema.

WELCOME CARTOON BLOG!

There is a newborn in the Cartoon Club family; after the festival and the publishing activity, it's time for Cartoon Blog. On its pages we are going to talk about directors, artists, films, characters and everything that concerns the world of animation cinema and comics, including press releases and news from other festivals and events. Also, backstage pills and anecdotes about "life in a festival". Most of the blog is in Italian, but there will be some posts in English.

CARTOON CLUB IN POLAND

From September 14th to 19th, the 34th edition of the Polish Film Festival takes place in the Polish city called Gdynia. Cartoon Club, thanks to the cooperation with the Polish Filmmakers Association, is partner of this Festival and has offered two programmes of Italian animation cinema.

NEWS FROM OUR PUBLISHING SECTION

Cartoon Club is not just a festival but also a publishing house. In the occasion of Riminicomix, we have printed two brand-new books: "Dante: La Vita", a comics parody by Marcello Toninelli (art-name simply Marcello) dedicated to the major poet of Italian literature, and the novel "S'i' fosse morte...", written by Marcello as well: a crime story, set in Middle-Age, where the Divine Poet has to become a detective!
